I actually like the comment on it being a “historic task”. People seem to forget that the letting in millions of refugees isn't something done to improve Germany's prospects, its done as humanitarian task.
I wouldn't for a second care to criticise German citizens for being opposed to it (I would probably be), but looking at the bigger picture Merkel is doing the right thing if you actually care about the well being of human beings as a whole, not just those of your nationality. I feel like sometimes it comes to larger bodies to act selfless in a way that the average citizen might not. i.e welfare etc.
My only critique is that the German people should have a say on the matter, they do live in Democracy after all. Clearly the next election is going to give a lot of power to the extreme right.
