Merging console and handheld is a good business decision. The hardware idea is nice. I'm sure they'll sell at a profit out of the gate.

But I have to wonder how this will impact actual games and third parties. Won't this hand-tie them when making games? Why cartridge based? I mean, really, why? Because it keeps hardware costs lower without any internal storage? Won't that ultimately make the cartridges more expensive? And instead of downloading multiple games to the device, you have to swap cartridges. Are we still living in the 90's?

This is a definite risk by Nintendo. But they've never really cared about third party support anyway. We'll see how it all plays out....

well if its a handheld than how will they release physical media with anything other than cartridges? a handheld that plays disks doesnt seem very practical.

And i dont see having cartridges affecting 3rd party support considering that 3DS uses them and has significantly better support than Wii U which uses disks.
