You do remember that the 3DS was not selling when it was $249, right?  Nintendo HAD to do a firesale, which lost them quite a bit of money, dropping the price to $169 before it started to perform well.  In other words, a $249-$299 handheld WILL NOT SELL in a day when you can buy a decent tablet for $100-$150 and play pretty much anything you want from the Play Store.  The handheld market is dying.

Lets not kid ourselfs here. No 100-150 handheld will have graphics or games that can be compared to a Nintendo NX.

Also going by your way of thinking. why buy a console at all when you can buy a $100-150 pc that can play pretty much all games on steam in some way or another?

It doesn't have to have better graphics.  We're talking about casuals here.  Ones that are fine playing Pokemon Go, or other mobile games, on their phones and tablets, not caring about rushing out to buy a 3DS or NX.

And HH and home consoles are completely different markets.  Hence why one is dying as casuals leave, but the other is still doing perfectly fine with core gamers staying.  And those core gamers aren't really going to care about a HH that can be plugged into their TV.  Especially when that console is much less powerful than the one they have now and priced at $299.
