I do want to state this:
Other rumors about NX felt more like rumors than rooted in any form of reality. This rumor actually takes into account the moves Nintendo has made of recent (like the cartridges) and makes them make some sense. Plus, this seems to be a very possible Nintendo type of move. If it is untrue, at least it was a believable untruth that does not take much mental flexing to put together.
