That seems a lot of wishful thinking, but I do agree they should have just gave in and put android on it, go the full path, but:
"Another source said the system would run on a new operating system from Nintendo. It won't, contrary to some earlier rumours, simply run on Android."
That should have specific advantages too, if they want to customize their software to take better advantage of the hardware.
I guess we'll have to wait and see, but 1 thing seems certain, it's a handheld replacement. I thought that would be the case for a long time now, but these news pretty much confirm it.
