On top of that Black and White 2 released for DS too at an even later date.

As much as I hate them doing it thats not going to stop them.

Nintendo at that time was (in their mind) in a possition of extreme strength, the DS and Wii were monstrous successes.  Nintendo right now is in a position of weakness and really needs a strong win.  That's my rationale there.  The circumstances are different.  Doesn't disprove this, but certainly isn't in its favor.
