I'm hoping my Panasonic Plasmas will last me long enough for OLED to mature aa fair bit more yet.

I understand from the manufacturers not doing OLED though, is more down to they can't make the sets at a price they want to sell them at and are not bothering at all. I'd heard that the Panasonic configuration of the LG OLEDs was actually a pretty good leap forwards. Like you say though the technology needs a bit more time to be at it's best. But OP isn't looking for right this second, and I'd expect the next batch of OLEDs to resolve most of their current issues.

1. Your plasma is likely already showing the effects of its half-lifes being breached. If you were to set up a new version of it right next to it, you'd likely see a substantial difference in the saturation of the blue.

2. Haven't personally been able to see the Panasonics, but if the quality is anything close to the x400u models... Then it's likely just a hot pile of garbage.

3. If OP isn't looking for a TV between now and April of next year, then he likely shouldn't be looking at all. TVs can change so drastically from year to year that it really isn't worth even looking into until you're less than a month out from purchase.

This is the set:

http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/panasonic-tx-p42gt30b-p42gt30-201103281070.htm got a 46" in the front room and a 42" in the spare room.

Was certainly far from a piece of garbage :) even with an ageing image quality, you still can't find an LCD anywhere near the pricepoint I paid that comes close.
