While some could argue the gameplay mechanics have aged when compared to MGS V, some could just as easily argue that MGS V's gameplay mechanics were far too complicated. Complexity and diversity does not necessarily make a combat system superior (see Dark Souls vs. Bloodborne). Simplicity has it's own benefits and I would say that The Last of Us's gameplay has held up very well. And of course, I suspect people will still make jokes about how no one ever detected Ellie, that was because that was a conscious decision to limit frustration.

Its story is still as moving as ever. And the art style and visuals are just as moving and luscious as ever. I still think the snow of the winter chapter is astounding.

I really can't think of a game with mainstream appeal that has come out since that can overtake its claim to being the greatest game of all time. Of course, this may all change come next Valentine's day.
