Nobody has ever voted for a prime minister in this country unless they happen to live in the constituency of the leader the biggest party. Just like if (when) Corbyn survives this leadership challenge and goes into the next general election, nobody outside of Islington will have the opportunity to vote for him. Parties pick the potential prime minister, not the electorate.

Personally I think the OP is overly harsh towards Corbyn and his supporters. But I am far from a fan of his and think if he were ever to get the top job, it would be a disaster.

I don't think he is capable of winning a general election and pretty much guarantees Theresa May will meet your definition of an elected leader in the future. But he is more than welcome to try and prove me wrong.
