If anything, most of FFXV's (particulary the biggest cities) feel more like a futuristic Renaissance than modern, real locations. The overall landscapes do feel modern, but I'd say they are the same in every other game, minus the hardware improvements to make it more real. I'm not sure I understand the sentiment, though, as Final Fantasy has always enjoyed trying to reinvent itself with every entry. Compare VI to VII and they look like nothing alike, even if we don't take the hardware improvement in consideration. Likewise, XII and XIII feel, at first sight, like two different franchises altogether. Final Fantasy VII still looked modern in most places, coupled with the sci-fi/fantasy elements. Then there's VIII, which not only had you driving cars, also demanded the player go to school like a normal student and most of their heavy plot elements (at least in the first disc) didn't stray too much from current, modern standards, Balamb design aside. In FFXV you still ride chocobos, get Guardian Forces for you to invoke and pretty much every trademark element of the series except for the combat system. It's more grounded, but I honestly see the fantasy/sci-fi aspect all over it, no matter what trailer, video or promotional element I can see. Heck, there's even the impossibly-made hairstyles all over this game. No way it can be confused with anything except for Final Fantasy. And even some shops have their weird flavor all out them, like the weapon's:
I don't really dislike this more grounded fantasy based on reality take. It's not like they've ever went full with it, so I'll embrace it and see how it pans out. |
Hmmmmm maybe.I think its then more the way I see things that makes me feel this way.I always felt like the perfect balance of having a medieval setting(use of swords, castles and animal transpirt and stufff) with a more sci-fi/modern setting(Use of guns and automated vehicles, modern looking cities and stuff) was perfect in FFX.So I always had that game as basis for comparison with other games. So for me this is a too far departure of that look and feel.Still, it dosent mean the game will be bad or I wont enjoy it.It just means that I wont buy on launch or anywhere near it XD.
My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
