So I've been in a grumpy mood for a few days, and I feel like some of that negativity is spilling out into the forum. That's not fair to the fine folks who come here for a break from all the pain and frustration of the real world.

So I thought of this thread where we each have to offer a sincere compliment about something we regularly dump on.

Please, no sarcastic compliments and no backhanded compliments. Find the value in something you usually disparage.

I'll go first.

I often pooh-pooh Sony's focus on cinematic storytelling. Well, that doesn't capture the whole picture. Naughty Dog is a master of computer animation, motion capture, writing, and coaxing out amazing voice acting performances. The writing in The Last of Us is especially good. So good, in fact, that I'd say it transcends the medium. There is something meaningful about playing a game with interesting and sympathetic characters, wrapped up in an engaging, surprising storyline. And I respect those who go into a game expecting a good yarn.

I've been a vocal critic of 343's Halo games, but I admire the studio for evaluating what worked and what didn't in Halo 4 and improving the multiplayer in 5 accordingly. Warzone, which borrows from games like Battlefield, is a real treal for Halo fans. The addition of objectives and AI enemies makes the mode feel alive and ever-changing - just like a real battlefield. It's a great addition to a legendary franchise.

OK, your turn!
