I have to agree with ya. That awful whining noise he makes when you're sneaking around is extremely annoying.  I have to say that all of the followers in Fallout 4 are idiotic and useless. They won't use the weapons you give them or power armor for long and they constantly bitch about the junk you pick up which have to for crafting. I use Dogmeat because of the lone wanderer perk and he's a decent pack mule. 

I'm guessing you didn't have Ada, then.  Can carry way more than anyone else, is a beast in combat, and actually praises you for hoarding.  She's the best companion easily.

She can even be turned into this if you want to spread carnage across the commonwealth-
