One of the reasons why wind and solar technologies are so expensive is because they are a niche product. Marginal cost curves are U-shaped, so when the production is to the left the cost per unit is higher. Demand is there, substitute products are not cheaper in the long run and people want "green" for preference.
I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
