The Amiga wasn't passed up for years, the PS3 has been passed up before it's a year old

Actually most early Atari ST ports to the Amiga were slightly inferior. This changed when games developers started to develop their game engine with Amiga's strengths in mind (multiprocessing using the custom chips, several dedicated processing chips handling game tasks simultaneously, the CPU mainly used to direct such processing, similar like the PPE in the PS3 should ideally be used for which is currently not the case for most PS3 games).

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."
