I've had 2 PS3s (one fat, one slim) and 2 360s (one elite, one slim) and all have survived. Only reason I got the slims for both was for the larger hard drive. Had the fat and elite for about 2-3 years and the slims have both survived fine for about 4-5 years each.
My Wii is the only one that has broke because of too much dust making it impossible to read discs thanks to Brawl. It was a common issue, so I sent it in and got it fixed for free.
