Everyday cops are shot and killed on duty, they need to be able to protect themselves. Not to mention that we generally only hear one side of these stories for months because of the ongoing investigation the cops can't explain themselves to the public. Do some cops use excessive force, yes. But the vast majority are good decent guys and all this outrage makes their lives that much harder... And sooner or later... Nobody is going to want to be a cop anymore, and then where will we be? |
Indeed. I take my jabs in these kinds of posts but I never let it slip my mind that cops are constantly terrified. The job is among the most stressful ever. I never got the whole "they are paid crap" thing - they actually make okay-ish money but even if each cop made a million dollars it still isn't worth a life. But I do totally understand the "it's me or him" lifestyle these guys have to live. The worst could happen to any of us on the way to/from or at work but those numbers quadruple for a cop. Not to mention in a country where, if you were foreign and watched American news on tv, would think all cops are trigger happy racists.
