| MikeB said: @ Bodhesatva Please read the Wikipedia article we have both quoted from: the Nintendo D-pad was perfected in Game and Watch games, which were released in 1982, well before the Amiga systems. Rolstoppable is referring to the button layout, not the D-pad. His point is distinct. I was pointing out that Amiga users unlike Snes users had a choice between sticks and gamepads with a D-Pad. User preferred arcade like sticks. Currently sticks are back on all major consoles, analog like for instance the Vectrex I pointed to earlier had. |
This isn't really about what Amiga users "preferred," which is a totally nebulous statement that I can neither prove or disprove. If we can agree that:
1) The Directional Pad plays a highly influential role in the evolution of game control
2) Nintendo was extremely important in the development of the modern D-Pad
Then we agree on the topic at hand. Whether you personally prefer the D-pad for classic games is both anecdotal and irrelevant to the topic.
