Pushing NX hardware is much more important to Nintendo than selling a few extra software copies on Wii U. Their future as a company is riding on NX, it represents their last chance to stay in the hardware business. With so much at stake, it makes no sense to handicap the system by robbing it of exclusives.

It should have enough software that having a cross gen Mario game shouldn't make much of a difference. If having a few cross gen titles are going to sink the ship (and honestly, you aren't going to get many people to buy a Wii U in 2017) then they don't have a solid strategy anyways.
