They're eventually going to leave.

It's just not going to be in the traditional way.

The Xbox is going to be absorbed into Windows 10 and/or Windows 11. It's already happening with all the games working on both platforms. Microsofts actions speak louder than Phil Spencers words on this.

I quite agree, they are trying anything possible, even very stupid things like trying to force people's will installing unwanted SW on their computers, to push Windows 10. XBox isn't going to disappear as HW, it could even be expanded, up to licensing it to 3rd parties, what's disappearing is XBox as independent SW platform, they really want to merge it with Windows.
I really feel sorry for MS astroturfers defending Win 10 on forums and trying to persuade anybody that criticise it, in the past, with previous new Windows versions they pushed when still too new and buggy, they were just mocked most of the times, but now MS aggressive moves for Win 10 downupgrade have made people so angry that many heavily insult those poor underpaid pawns.

Edit: anyhow all this means that technically they aren't leaving the console market, but just making their console a specialised Windows machine.
