Unfortunately, this has happened far too often to me.

Uncharted 3 - I wouldn't describe Uncharted as a favorite franchise, but I'd still like to forget about Uncharted 3, which suffered from clumsy melee, poor pacing, and general problems with movement and aiming.

Halo 4 - it boasts gorgeous graphics, but lackluster level design, multiplayer, and storytelling

Halo 5 - somehow 343 made an even less impressive campaign, although it improved things on the multiplayer side.

Resident Evil 6 - with so many scripted events and the general cinematic presentation, Capcom would have been better off just making an animated movie.

Fable 3 - the game is rich in potential but let down by some weird design choices and a flat final act.

 

Then there are some poor entries that tipped the scales, i.e., turned a favored franchise into a non-favored one. Those include Infamous 2 and Second Son; and Killzone 2, 3, and Shadow Fall.
