XIII was directed by Toriyama, who has zero to do with XV and some of the biggest problems with FFXIII, like excessive linearity and lack of towns, are actually being solved in FFXV. XIV is an MMO, and a game like that is developed with different priorities to a single player game. I think using older titles to say that the newest title will suck is a weak argument because those older titles had different creative teams and design priorities to the newest title. |
The reason I brought up those games is to mention how SE has been struggling to reinvent FF in every mainline title since FFX to poor results - XII being the only bright spot. They couldn't figure out what they were doing with XIII so they had XIII Versus on the side - which is now XV - in development hell in attempts to reinvent the reinvention.
My basis for XV being off is how the E3 trailer(I think?) where he fights the summon is being cited as "epic" when in reality it's a QTE snorefest. All other demos and trailers show how pretty it is(the "SE Kool-Aid" I mentioned) and what gameplay is shown is a whole lotta nothin'. It's great that they're bringing back towns, as odd as that is to say, as well as non-linearity though I'll belive it when I see it. However, the hype surrounding XV is far too similar to the hype XIII got which boiled down to "look how pretty this game is #DayOne."
