The Core Gameplay is rock solid in overwatch.
It was one of my praises for the game and not a criticism.

Blizzard just needed more game modes and/or maps to keep me and what seems, other people entertained for the long haul, having Assault and Escort and a combination of the two isn't much in gameplay variety, they should have thrown in some Deathmatch and Free for All at the very least.

It's all well and good to promise free content, but if it's like Halo 5, Titan Fall, Evolve, Battlefront, or Diablo 3 etc' where you get bored and move onto another game before that content comes out, what good is it?
There are simply far to many quality games releasing these days where it's harder to keep the attention of people before they move onto something else.

With that said... Developers releasing these "lighter" games is less of a financial risk, the sequels will likely get a larger amount of backing not only in financing, but development time, Titanfall is a good example of this happening, so it's good in a way.

Then there is no harm in waiting isn't it? For many people the core gameplay is great enough to not care about the amount of content and that is why a game like Overwatch should be praised even more. It hurts me to see people shitting on games that really focus on great gameplay but don't have a lot of content because they're released early to gather fan feedback and because of financial reasons. They get shat on in the same way as games with a lot of content but bad or boring gameplay. And then I'm thinking to myself, content can be created but if a core gameplay loop isn't on point at release it will never truly be good.

It's basically the same problem lots of early access games have. Great games but never really finished and a lot of your enthusiasm goes out of the window before it's even released. Overwatch and Rocket League are nothing more than very polished early access games. But since they're online focused games, the content is not that important. The content in online game is the online gameplay itself and not the amount of modes or classes.

There is zero risk that Blizzard will not support this game with new content for at least a few years. It was crazy popular even before the game released and not because it's Blizzard but it's one of the greatest foundations of an online shooter ever. There will be content along the way but I doubt it will help you much.

I don't believe that an online game with minimal content that bores you after a month will have the ability to keep you much longer than that even with more content. Of course it's people's right to complain about lack of content but it's not like content will come any sooner that way. I'm sure they have already laid out an internal plan for DLCs for at least a year.

BTW full disclaimer: So far I haven't played asingle second of Overwatch. I like to watch it on youtube and I love the characters. I will play it at some point if I can find other people to play it with and when I'm done with RL^^
