I disagree with OP's assessment. To me the greatest RPG of all time is the original Final Fantasy for the NES.
It is the RPG that got me into RPGs. Has an excellent story. It was well ahead of it's time. The game is still fun to play this very day.
As for Pokemon, I could never get into the series. It always bored me for some reason.
