I just read that article.

That's a fine example of how to make a click bait article, because all of it revolves around this small part:

Interestingly, yesterday a Microcenter branch in Overland Park Kansas revealed to a customer that they’re receiving a shipment of 100 RX 480 cards on the 28th of June. That’s more than 22 times the number of GTX 1080 cards the same branch had at launch, which was only four cards.

You simply can't extrapolate what happens in one store to a whole country... because VGC numbers come from more than one store per country, right?
