It does't mater the reason why they did it, Sony removed the functionality after advertising it. They are in the wrong, even if some people think this feature wasn't much of a big deal. Can you imagine if they removed the Blu-Ray movie playback functionality? Exactly.
Is amazing and makes me livid to see a company, that (in my opinion) relies heavily on its PR department, face law for its line walking marketing shenanigans for once.
