I was talking home consoles, should've made that more clear. NES had no competition. SNES was released in a time when video games were still very much for children. The family friendly image doesnt help consoles anymore, there is a reason why teh best selling ones of the past decade havent had it. Wii sure, but people were buying that cause of motion control (i know i did) how well would Wii have sold without it?

So just arbitrary reasons why those consoles dont count and Wii U failed because of being aimed at families......

I didnt say Wii U failed cause of that, but it was one of the MANY reasons it didnt do well. Ninty portables generally have no competition, PSP was the only one that came close.
