The folks at 343 have mismanaged Halo, Lionhead is gone, Rare has an inconsistent track record, and The Coalition has a lot to prove. You seem to be talking very much personal taste here, which could be argued all day.  I mean, in that case, I think Sucker Punch is doing fine.  I thought Killzone 3 was a good game, though admittedly flawed.  Games scoring in the 80s are usually good games, even if they're not to an individual's taste.  I'm not going to criticize Nintendo for making platformers just because I don't like them.

Sony's philosophy is to usually let studios try what they want.  It doesn't always work but I like it.  

However, I do feel like the era of first-party expansion is coming to an end.  We might see the odd addition here and there but contracting third-party studios for first party projects is going to get more and more popular with all three console manufacturers.  It has most of the benefits with way less risks and financial obligations.  People are just going to have to get used to it and restructure their lists accordingly.

I am talking personal taste. It's the only thing on which I can speak with any authority. And I think you have every right to complain about Nintendo as long as you provide justification.
