I think it's because some people are just probably tired of the status quo. Few things in gaming are as predictable as the console market. It's a cycle that's repeated itself six times over the past 30 years. A shift away from the current paradigm is thus appealing to those who want to see a big change just to see a big change. But the console cycle works, it has good reasons why it exists, and there's no indication that it's going to up an stop existing. Some people predicted last generation was going to be the final generation, yet here we are. Now some are saying this one will be the final generation, or are at least hoping it will be, but it's not happening. Mark my words: we'll start hearing about the PS5 no later than 2020, assuming it hasn't already been released or at least announced. What MS does remains to be seen, but assuming they decide to stay in the console market and the Scorpio has at best the effect of a decent price cut for a few months to a year before the "Xbox One family" as a whole enters terminal decline, we should see them announce an Xbox 4 as well, probably no later than 2020 as well. |
I think that the console Generations are good for the companies and is a protection for the Consumer, that they will receive support for Several years.
The money that people intend to spend in Gaming is much lower than the money for something that bring Status like a Iphone, or a 30K TV.
