So I just downloaded both through this EA Access free trial period. I'm playing through Battlefield 4's campaign right now. I gotta say: it's pretty good! It is such a monumental improvement over the campaign in Battlefield 3, which was one of the worst I've played.
Some things I like about Battlefield 4:
Big, open levels. You're not restricted to hiding behind a crate while a platoon of enemy soldiers funnels down a hallway into a hail of bullets. You can sneak around a shed and flank the enemy. You can climb stairs and snipe the bad guys. You can lay mines for enemy armor. Lots of freedom there.
Unlockable weapons. This is something I also loved in Killzone Mercenary. In each level, you are scored for kills, assists, chain kills, etc. As you gather points, you'll earn a bronze medal, then a silver, then a gold. Each medal unlock a new weapon that you can then access at any time from weapons lockers scattered around each level. You can also find new guns on defeated enemies. My go-to assault rifle I picked up off a recently deceased bad guy. Hey, it was him or me!
Graphics. You know me, I care very little about high-end graphics. But the weather and lighting effects in this game are just wonderful. Destructible environments are cool too.
Some things I don't like:
Your standard jarhead vs. the world storyline, with all the cliched supporting characters.
A little too much walking simulation. Let me get into the fight!
A few too many scripted events, but there aren't a lot of QTEs so far (I know you dislike those).
