I don't think we will see 5 year long gen again. Last gen, things were going well until 2012-13 when the consoles were too obsolete and games started flopping. Neo and Scorpio will solve the problem with the final years.
Modern games take a long time to be developed. I'm afraid that in a short gen a lot of games couldn't even release on time. If PS5 arrived in 2018, it's way likely that GTA, Elder Scrolls, Red Dead Redemption, GoW and many other big titles wouldn't arrive on time for the gen or would have to compete with the PS5.
People say that this gen hasn't started yet and they are kinda correct. If you think about the PS3, games only started to make then gen amazing around 2010-11, 4 to 5 years after launch.
