I first trust my own tastes. No good review on the Earth will ever convince me to play Pro Evolution Soccer for instance, as I have no desire to play soccer games. So first my interests I keep in mind.
Secondly I use mainly IGN and EGM for quality review choices, with Metacritic as a guide to see where the average stands.
If there's a demo i'll ty to play it first as a test run.
That's it. If I still get a stinker based on that I just chalk it up to bad luck. The only game I bought recently I can't stand is Monster Madness, and that's because it was a $10 impulse buy at Target and I didn't check reviews in advance. I just remembered it was very similiar to Zombies Ate My Neighbors and made a bad decision to buy. Please no one buy this game.
