I don't get how people somehow believe that "Games talked about per publisher" is some kind of cake you can only carve up in a finite amount of pieces. As if there was a certain populace you need to divide among available games. So if Nintendo showed two games, Zelda would have had half the social media coverage? Seems strange to me.

I think the point is more "Nintendo had one big console game that they talked about all day, released tons of footage about, and was the absolute center of their E3 event."

Does that translate to more buzz?  I don't know.  Maybe, maybe not, but it is something to consider.

If Sony built an entire E3 presentation around God of War, with tons of footage and streams for an entire day, would it have generated more attention?  If it had, would that have been better for Sony than a bunch of games all generating smaller amounts of social media attention?  Who knows.

Personally, I'm in the "social media is nice free advertising but it doesn't actually mean anything on its own" camp.
