Pretty much agree. I dont think sony will go for anything above $499. Being first and far more price competitive option beats matching Scorpio tit for tat. Especially if Native 4k isn't the goal (I don't think it should be this decade). In order for the torch to be passed to Neo/Scorpio as entry point "Next gen" devices (2019-2020), I feel like they'd both need new CPUs, this is my main concern with Sony. |
Thats the thing, not a single mention of the neo was made at E3. And sony doesnt need to be first to market and cheaper. If anything, the PS4 has been outselling the XB1 even while being more expensive for alkost 2yrs now. Sony has that kimda mindshare already. Its already deemed as the better product and people are willing to pay more for it.
The Neo/Scorpio doesn't hsve to be price concious at all, this is the first time and with just the perfect mix of circumstances that a console can stake such a claim.
I also feel both consoles will coke with new CPUs alongside their new GPUs and will target native 4k. Which is easy if you are throwing in AMDs 480 polaris GPU with zen cpu. There is no meed releasing an iterative hardware this year when all it takes is waiting 6-8 more months to have something for the around the same price but significantly more powerful.
And as lomg as the "entry" consoles remain at $300, ot doesmt really matter how expensive the premium 4k consoles are as long as they are still cheaper than building a similarly specced 4k PC. last thing sony or Ms wants to do is make a "sorta" 4k box.
