To be fair, E3 2014 was panic-stations-announce-everything-we've-got mode. Just like Nintendo had with that WiiU Direct January 2013. You can understand it, because if your console isn't doing what you want it to do you're going to be more tempted to announce stuff early to build hype for it.
What Sony's reasoning for announcing stuff too early is, I have no idea :P
