I think AMD is playing this very smart.
I mean if you think about it for the biggest part of people out there playing at 1080/1440P.
This will be enough power to max out any game, and alot of games at 4K too even newer ones if your willing to mix a few settings.
Imo it will only be at 4K and in VR where you will really see the difference with the 1080, and in games about 2 years down the road.
And if you think about it by the time that comes around the will be even newer and better cards out for the 200 price range again.
So for a user who didnt have the full cost of a 1070/80, they could buy a RX480 now and then in 2 years buy a newer card, so its kinda like splitting the cost in a way.
I think this is a very smart choice from AMD.

I think that price is a key factor here.

The GTX 1070 at $449 for the Founders Edition costs 499 € here in Spain (and I assume the same for the other euro countries), which means that the more affordable versions will probably cost about 450 €. I know that it beats the 980Ti, but that's insane for a "second best" card.

I think Nvidia has gone too far with the pricing this time and that the RX 480 and GTX 1060, cards that will be great to game at 1080p, will be will be the cards that will sell the most this time.
