I don't think it's BS at all. The 2x might be exaggerating but I definitely think many are surprised by how this generation has played out so far including Sony. 

Before the reveals I think devs, publishers, game journalists etc... Probably thought this was the generation MS would take off with, especially in the US. No possible way they thought the next playstation would be leading in the US at least after it got trounced there.   

I think MS considered the US on lock and expected to make headway elsewhere and not be fighting a losing battle on their home turf.

Apparently, it was not as much an expected 40 mill sold at this stage. It was an expected ability to sell as many (or even more) units than Sony.

I agree. Ms thought the Xbox one would be under many tvs in the US as not just a gaming machine but media center. 

No one thought PlayStation would be beating them at home.  Heck the ps4 is even doing the media thing better with vue and Spotify etc....
