Oh I know you don't need to be online to play as I've used that tactic to avoid friends when playing a single player game lol

I'd be curious to see just how common this practice is, but it generally seems as if the great majority of AAA games that install from the discs initially are woefully incomplete or unstable, and so require large patches. I cannot remember the last time I got to simply play a dang game after installation without immediate updates, and they're generally large ones at that.

Therein lies the probably, as while you can reinstall games with your discs you cannot re-patch them if the service isn't offered. Likewise, the PS4 only allows you to back up your hard drive and swap it, but does not allow game data to be saved to an external hard drive. For that reason patched, stable games could theoretically disappear in the future, replaced by whatever version shipped on the disc.

Personally, I don't think this will ever be a problem; online support is becoming more common, not less, and there's generally ways around these issues with time. If Sony relaxed their rules regarding external hard drives, for instance, these patches could be acquired easily from other hosts in the future. My only point was that it is similar to Blizzard, Steam and really most games in that the gaming world is becoming very reliant on online support to actually maintain their games. That said, I don't see such support waning, and I feel fairly confident in assuring you that you'll have some option for the WoWs, Diablo 3s, and Overwatches of the world far beyond the point that you'd actually care heh

Seriously, people still play Diablo I, Diablo II and Warcraft 3 still receive patches, and private servers have sustained just about every MMO that ever existed. I don't think the threat of them suddenly disappearing is a realistic problem lol

After all, the industry is clearly trending towards digital-only (the PC market is pretty much there already), so it's an odd thing to hold against at a game. I admit it's irritating when a game is online-only, but that's hardly been a problem for the good ones in the past. I'd wager Blizzard would certainly allow offline play on D3 should they end support, as that's just their style; I'm not aware of any company that supports their games for longer than Blizzard.

Clearly you didn't read what i said, western triple a games mostly suck monkey poe(battleshit, call of shitty, fallout, assasins creed, and so many more.

All the japanese games and indies i have physical are payable till end day 1 without any game breaking bug.

Also ratchet and clank and uncharted 4 are pretty much bugfree on dics.

Also digital only era coming?

Well go and talk to Microsoft about what happend.

Will it ever happen a industry where noo game will ever get physical releases?

Noo,never ever!

Digital and physical can live together and iam so happy where seeing more and more indies and digital only games getting physical console releases.

Most people. Clearly don't seem to understand the difference between pc and the console industry.

And yes there is go YouTube and type'videogameroomtour"

And you will understand.

Go look at LimitedRungames and search what happend when they released one game physical, now they have more than 30 contracts already signed.

First, I don't know if you've ever seen the Trailer Park Boys but I had to read this in Mr. Lahey's voice after those two haha

Otherwise, I didn't say digital only was the future, but rather that it will become increasingly prominent which, if you haven't noticed, it has. If I had to guess I'd say the Playstation Now streaming service likely looks like the future of consoles, as subscription based streaming has certainly worked out for them.

I certainly don't think physical is just going to vanish, then, but it will likely continue to diminish. I seriously hope the rumors that the Nx will be utilizing something akin to the memory card is true as I personally love physical media, but I can't confidently state that most games will continue to offer physical releases into the future. Hopefully consumer pressure and the pressure from retailers continues to keep them around, but consumers are not nearly as anti-digital as you're making them out to be.

I'm not really sure why you're linking me to game room videos... I'm well aware people collect as I myself am a collector. Granted, I don't collect just for the sake of owning or completing sets, but currently I have an Atari VCS, Intellivision, Nes, Snes, Genesis, N64, PS1, Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, Xbox360, PS3, Wii, Wii U, and PS4, and every week or two I search the internet for two games I'd like to try on one of those systems, head to Games Galore, pick them up, and make a weekend of it lol... my next move will be for a Sega Master System.

Basically, it's fair to say I'm one heck of a fan of physical media, and I'll admit I miss the ease of just popping the game in and playing. I really suspect, though, that physical media will increasingly become a collector thing as opposed to a mainstream thing. Really, Limited Run Games is essentially the future I'm describing, where it's available for people like you and I who love it but most will leave such things behind.
