The problem is that Dead Rising is a game whose gameplay structure is based around a timer, with the "being at the correct time in the correct place" to make things progress.

People who demanded no timer simply weren't fans of the original games. As a result we have DR3, which features a timer but the game doesn't really need it as it does absolutely nothing to its structure, all to satisfy people who didn't really like the games in the first place.

I think people wanted an open world zombie action game period.

Limitation is something not tolerated this gen, be it technically or gameplay wise.
