So I went and saw Warcraft despite negative criticism from many critics. It was an enjoyable movie.

Well, it's a Legendary Pictures movie, so at least the effects and the sound design would be good, and they were. The movie had some verry impressive effects and even though the sound design mainly rested on one theme, it was a very cool piece of soundtrack.

The battles were cool, intense and didn't hold back in any way.

The characters were generally fleshed out, maybe a bit of backstory missing here and there, but the actors did a good job and most of the characters intentions were set up well through their actions.

The story was straightforward. I had to think a couple of times because I can't remember all Warcraft's lore, but I could follow the story quite well. The biggest problem with the story was the pacing. Especially the first part of the movie was a bit confusing, since it seems they couldn't settle in a tempo a they constantly switched characters. This got better towards the end however and wasn't such a big downer (La Grande Bellezza won an oscar and that movie had massive pacing problems that would put Warcraft to shame).

I wouldn't say Warcraft is a masterpiece, but it felt true to the Warcraft universe and I could feel the effort that was put into it. I think many critics were very unfair in their judgment of this movie.

6.5/10, would watch again.
