Couldn't agree more. Seems like people here have close to no empathy. If it's something that hasn't happened to them or doesn't affect them in any way, they simply dismiss it.
I lived in China for almost a year and all the Black people I spoke to told me that they were discriminated against all the time. Their English books explain the word "ugly" with a picture of a Black man. It is incredibly hard to find a job, unless you go through an agency. People call them all sorts of names (because they assume that they don't speak Mandarin). There are stories (you can look them up) of men who get beat up for dating Chinese girls and even the police don't do anything to help them when they arrive at the scene. I spoke to my students about Black people and they told me that they don't like them because they are dirty and ugly. In contrast as a white male, I felt like a superstat. People taking pictures of me, hitting on me all the time, talking to me, etc.
