Huge post

I genuinely think console manufacturers (particularly Sony) are going to move away from cycles. Having versions instead allows for all the benefits cycles bring while still maintaining an ever growing install base of a particular brand with forwards and backwards compatibility. This benefits the consumer, the manufacturer and the developers. Consumers no longer have to worry about upgrading their machine if they can't afford to because they know all the games will still appear on the version they already own, the manufacturer can continue dominating and bring everyone along with it and developers can be safe in the knowledge that any game they make from now on will find a customer in the future (patches will replace remasters).
