Plenty play the game and others have gotten passes for it, it just happens that each time someone does it do a few who don't buy into the game start to point it out and ignore the rest or use it as the new flavour, this also happens with movies and likely music as well.
Not sure if it would be disturbing if they didn't try it and still sold millions of copies, people just haven't had a colourful TF2 like shooter for a long time since we've had years and years worth of gritty borwn and grey military shooters or old focus on past wars.
I tell you what though, we are all biased and we all have our fave flavours, some of which we'll likely never say is our favourite to be biased for (because that would render the original stance completely moot).
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
