Is the Xbox Scorpio coming too late? Or is MS trying to reinvent console gens?

I feel its more like Sony trying to release a more powerful console because the PS4 can't handle VR, and Microsoft just going into another gen. 4 years is too long for an "upgrade" like this.

MS have 20m Xbox One sold.... dropping them on the floor already would be too early.
