As for warranting a broken nose---HELL NO. Some guys who probably have a history of abuse might lose their shit but no reasonable guy would and no human being should be excused for it if that line is crossed.

If you are ever confronted, be honest, apologize and respect their boundries. Play up your embarassment if you must, make a self-depracating joke and make sure it does not happen again.

Oh once I found out I apologized immediately. Then called my gf and laughed about the accident.

You should be in the clear.  The faster one owns up to an honest mistake, the less the potential fallout.  From my end it looks like you contained things well.
