I'm not going to respond to the bulk of your post because I agree with every word. I agree with the bolded too but for me, that's the most significant factor. IF (key word there) indeed the PSNeo launches a year ahead of the Scorpio then MS will be forever playing catch up because Sony are set to break the traditional format for console launches and move from 'cycles' to 'versions'. This means there are NO set times that we can expect another iteration and the market is at the mercy of Sony completely. For instance, if MS release the Scordio next Christmas then what Sony will do is release yet another iteration of the PS4 early 2018 leaving MS having to either wait yet another year or launch another iteration of their console only a few months later, which won't go down well with their hardcore audiences. Sony will only do that though if the market shows a significant drop in PS4 sales. If the Scorpio doesn't affect the sales of the PS4 then they'll wait longer. I think the main difference in the two companies is MS attempt to slow sales of their competition while Sony just concentrate on sustaining a business plan. I'll tell you what's happened here: Last year Sony said they would consider iterations of the PS4 but there was no suggestion they would do it short term. MS weren't convinced they would do it earlier rather than later but then they got wind of the Neo rumours (they would have heard from devs much earlier than the media). Their gut reaction was to suggest they were doing something similar. They realised then that their market share was already shrinking and rumours of iterations would slow their sales down further and they're not in the same position as Sony. They were at stalemate with the strategy, so they leaked information of a more powerful console for next year in the hope to prevent even more XB owners from moving over to the PS4. |
Do you think that Sony will get hid of the Generation thing ?, so how it would work ?, The new models need to play previous models's games and the first models need to play the next model's games so it would mean Infinite support for the original PS4 and Xbox One ?.
