It's rewarding when you know you've made a difference and brought them some happiness. One elderly person who was isolated in a room upstairs actually reached out, cupped my cheak in her hand and asked me 'are you real?' I felt moved to my core but it also reminded me of how isolated she was and how she was clearly neglected. There wasn't any physical cruelty as such, just an overbaring sense of apathy that clearly permeated a majority of the staff members, staff members that had all the influence and so rejected anyone who didn't follow their critaria. I was a threat to their way of doing things and so they poisoned the well, so to speak. I lost faith altogether and will never work in that industry again. I can't keep my mouth shut.
