It's online only WITH Microtransactions at a $100 AUD price point, it's main and active competitor is actually Team Fortress 2... A free to play title.
There isn't even many game modes or maps either.

Anyway, I'm personally bored with Overwatch now, so it's likely shelved untill new content comes out... I have far to many games to be playing than to keep playing the same old Multiplayer, the population will plummet with this game.

Those are not actual micro transactions. And the community will be strong for awhile. Just because you don't understand why doesn't mean a large group of people don't find this game fun. And tf2 is in no way an actual competitor to Overwatch right now. You're silly to think otherwise. (PS: tf2 wasn't free)

edit: it's not fair to look at the price in Australia. Most people don't even have to pay half that amount to get this game.

They're Microtransactions by it's very definition.
"Microtransaction is a business model where users can purchase virtual goods via micropayments. Microtransactions are often used in free-to-play games to provide a revenue source for the developers."

Sure... You don't have to buy them, but the monetary pricing is still there for things like decals and voice clips, calling them something else doesn't hide the fact that they are indeed microtransactions.

And Team Fortress 2 is free (Maybe not on console, but certainly on PC).

They are also the same "genre".

If people find enjoyment out of the game, good for them, but I believe in criticism where criticism is due so that companies can improve upon with successive releases or patches... And I expect more out of Blizzard.
And FYI. I do own the game.
