This was one of those games I had high hopes for, but the more information that is released the more it sounds like it'll be a game that will grow stale quickly.

Really, the presentations and such have been the absolute spitting image of those for Spore, and the concepts/reactions are also eerily similar. What I've begun to worry as they've showed gameplay footage is that, much like spore, the overall gameplay appears to be rather lacking. Focusing on scale over content has never once produced a quality game, and, to be frank, what they've showed over and over is a game that appears to be lacking in features and excitement.

I've always looooved games in which exploration is key, but there has to be some substance there (which is why Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim, being astronomically smaller than Daggerfall, were superior all the same). Spore basically focused its marketing on its own procedurally generated galaxy, and people quickly found that, while it was indeed expansive, it felt hollow and uninteresting. I fear this game is at risk for the same.

That they've said it's fairly likely you'll never encounter another person and that there's no way currently to easily reach a friend just hurts it further in my eyes.

I certainly hope I'm wrong of course, but can anyone really watch their videos, put aside the visuals, and see anything outside of mindless repetition with little true gameplay? That's a serious question, as if I'm overlooking features I'd definitely like to know.

Man, we are on the same page today :)
