Force the middle east to deal with the problem. They're the ones who caused this mess, and now they should fix it! It isn't the west's responsibility to clean the world up!

The United States went into Iraq and destabilized the country in the first place. They also supported the Mujahideen during the Soviet-Afghan war, who would later end up being their main enemy. They also support Saudi Arabia, a country that is known for it's Islamist extremism.

It really goes back to how the region was carved up after world war 1 and the dismantling of the Turkish Empire. The region was split according to what economically suited the USA and Britain (and to a lesser extent the continental allies of the US and Britain). If the region had been able to self determine it's post Turkish national boundaries things would look quite different.

The of course you have Israel being forced upon the region to assuage the collective guilt over the Nazi extermination of the Jews. I personally have no problem with Israel existing as a nation, but Israel's neighbours had no say in the matter, and it was merely because it was British occupied territory at the time.

The USA supported the Mujahardeen in Afghanistant only for as long as it took to drive the Soviets out. They abandoned Afghanistan immediately thereafter and did not help at all to transition into a moderate / liberal democracy, thence we got the rise of the Taliban.

So it is completely unfair and unjust to just tell the Arabs to sort the shit out, because most of the shit is because of Western interference (for oil control) in the first place.

In most places where you will find socio-economic shitholes the hands of the west will be sullied by historical colonial intereference.
