OCULUS RIFT APP UPDATE KILLS MULTIPLATFORM "REVIVE" HACK

http://www.pcgamer.com/oculus-rift-app-update-kills-multiplatform-revive-hack/

The Revive hack that allowed Oculus Rift-exclusive apps to be used on other VR headsets is no more. As reported by Motherboard, the 1.4 update to the Oculus App includes “platform integrity checks” that determine whether an Oculus Rift is connected to a PC when running software purchased from the Oculus Store. And if the headset isn't present, the app won't run.

YOOKA-LAYLEE UPDATE REVEALS SCREENS, STORY, AND DR. QUACK

http://www.pcgamer.com/yooka-laylee-update-reveals-screens-story-and-dr-quack/

It was just over a year ago that the Banjo-Kazooie-inspired Yooka-Laylee walked away with more than £2 million ($2.9 million) on Kickstarter, an especially remarkable achievement given that its goal was £175,000 ($254,000). Things have been pretty quiet since then, but developer Playtonic Games revealed today that the studio has tripled in size over the past year, relocated, and "quietly slaved away on what would become the final form of Yooka-Laylee."

CROTEAM DEVELOPER SAYS TALOS PRINCIPLE 2 "IS GOING TO HAPPEN"

http://www.pcgamer.com/croteam-developer-says-talos-principle-2-is-going-to-happen/

The Talos Principle was a game that really clicked with me. I'm not even very good at puzzle games normally, and I rarely have the patience to get far with them, but this one pulled me in on an emotional level; its philosophical musings may have dime-store shadings, but I was happy to buy into them, especially wrapped as they were in Elohim's soothing voice, the bright, beautiful game world, and all the ridiculous secrets it had hidden away—which actually had a reason for being there.

ELITE: DANGEROUS ENGINEERS ADD-ON ARRIVES NEXT WEEK

http://www.pcgamer.com/elite-dangerous-engineers-add-on-arrives-next-week/

Elite: Dangerous' Horizons season pass gets another string to its bow next week, and yes, for the purposes of this intro, Elite: Dangerous' Horizons season pass is a sort of violin. That 'string' comprises the Engineers add-on, which adds loot and crafting to the enormo-space sim, along with NPC engineers to take your loot and do your crafting for you. You'll be able to improve your standing with these NPCs, in exchange for better stuff. It sounds like a pretty worthwhile add-on, and it's being added to Horizons as a big old patch on May 26.

>>By next week, it means this week.

A MAJOR HOMEWORLD: REMASTERED UPDATE IS ON THE WAY

http://www.pcgamer.com/a-major-homeworld-remastered-update-is-on-the-way/

We gave Homeworld Remastered a glowing 92 score in our review last year, which is as it should be. The original Homeworld was a brilliant piece of space opera, and so “Homeworld, but prettier” is about as close to a sure thing as you're going to get in this business. But it turns out that Gearbox isn't done with it yet: An in-depth Fist of Heaven report says a team at the studio has spent the past six months working on a major update, which is now close to completion.

OVERWATCH'S COMPETITIVE MODE WILL (HOPEFULLY) BE BACK BY THE END OF JUNE

http://www.pcgamer.com/overwatchs-competitive-mode-will-hopefully-be-back-by-the-end-of-june/

The decision to cut competitive play from the Overwatch open beta, and the full release of the game, was about as last-minute as it gets. But it sounds like it won't be gone for long: Game Director Jeff Kaplan said in a Q&A video posted today on Facebook that he hopes to have to have the mode back next month.

RON GILBERT STILL WANTS TO BUY THE MONKEY ISLAND IP

http://www.pcgamer.com/ron-gilbert-still-wants-to-buy-the-monkey-island-ip/

Ron Gilbert, creator of The Secret of Monkey Island, really wants to make another Monkey Island game. He's pursued the cause quite publicly, writing last year that he'd reached out to rights holders Disney. Despite Gilbert always envisioning the The Secret of Monkey Island as a trilogy, Disney nevertheless displayed no desire to part with the property – though they've licensed it out in the past, most notably to Telltale Games.

SEGA HAS A QUICK FIX FOR TOTAL WAR: WARHAMMER CRASHES

http://www.pcgamer.com/sega-has-a-quick-fix-for-total-war-warhammer-crashes/

Total War rages in the Old World, but some players are struggling to feel the heat of battle. Due to launch-day server load, "a few hundred" players are failing to connect, causing a crash. Never fear! Sega is on hand with a quick and dirty fix: set Steam to offline mode. I did say quick and dirty.
